This tool tip database shows you 
useful tips helping you to get most 
out of the software. 

You can get help by pressing
F1 key over a tool, a tool option
or a window.

Windows knows how to show Realsoft 
project thumbnails and .r3i images.

Mouse wheel allows you to scroll all 
scrollable windows, such as the select 
window and the tool bars. 

In the view window, mouse wheel moves 
the camera forward / backward.

You can use the mouse wheel to adjust 
the brightness of color fields. 

Use the mouse wheel in the time slider 
window to move the current frame forward 
or backward.

Realsoft 3D icons were created and 
rendered in Realsoft 3D. 

When viewing images in ShowImg or
in Realsoft 3D, you can use the
pop-up menu to select the channel
to be viewed. 

You can render any property, such as
color, alpha, distance, brilliancy,
illumination, transparency, just to
name a few, to an image. For example,
render Illumination to a Targa file. 

ShowImg utility allows you
to view any image channel,
such as Color, Alpha and
Distance. 

You can manage view settings
in the select window. 
Desired settings can be activated
by dragging & dropping them into
the view window.

Range selection is supported 
via CTRL+LMB keys.

The middle mouse button can be
used for panning or scrolling
windows. 

Tab key activates cruising
mode (active until released).
<up> accelerates 
<down> decelerates 
<left> turns to left 
<right> turns to right 

Ctrl key acts as a drag modifier
in object creation. If Ctrl key
is pressed, only selected objects
are considered in point snapping.
If an object is in edit state,
only selected points are considered

You can assign materials
to the selected faces by
using drag & drop: just select
the desired faces and drag drop
desired material into the
view window.

The Select Window consists
of several tabs, which allow
you to select any objects 
in the project, such as
geometric objects, materials,
post effects, grids and
macros.

You can also select objects by
clicking and dragging them
in the View window.

You can rotate around the objects
in a View window by holding down
the Alt key and dragging with
the right mouse button.

[linux,irix]
You can rotate around the objects
in a View window by dragging with 
the middle mouse button.

When you select an object,
the context sensitive toolbar
automatically shows you the
tools which can be applied
to the selected object.

The View Property Window can be
opened from the View's popup
menu. You can control all view
settings using this window.

The function keys F2 - F9 hide
and bring back various user
interface components. You can
expand the view window's work area
quickly using these shortcuts.

Curve, Circle and Rectangle
tools create geometric objects
with freeform, rectangular and
circular cross section.

Three circular object handles
can be used for rotating
objects about their main
axes

Hit the 'r' key to activate
the rotate tool.

When rotating objects,
you can hold down the Shift 
key to activate Angle grid

To copy an object, hold down
the Ctrl key while modifying
it 

To animate an object, simply
click the Record button in the
animation window and modify
the object at desired frames.

The 'm' shortcut key activates
the move tool.

You can map a material
to a geometric object using 
drag & drop. Just select the
object and drag a material
from the Select Window into
the View window. 

The spacebar is the keyboard shortcut
which turns point editing on and off.

You can double click objects
with the left mouse button 
to open the Property Window.

'Del' key deletes the selected objects.

To create a flock of lens
flares, create particles and
drag & drop the lens flare
effect from the Select Window
into the View window. 

Right mouse button dragging with
the Ctrl key held down pans
a view window.

You can drag & drop new
tools into your toolbar
from the Available Objects
window.
Open this window from the
Environment/Customization
pull-down menu.

Right mouse button dragging with
the Shift key held down zooms
a view window.

You can multi select objects
in the Select Window by holding
down the Shift Key. 

You can save useful View
orientations by clicking
the Camera tool and
accepting it immediately.
This creates a camera object
whose geometry corresponds
to the orientation of the
current View.

You can switch to a desired 
camera view by dragging the
camera from the Select
Window into the View window. 

Use the 'File/Render' pull down
menu to render your scene into
a disk file. But remember to
add a camera object to
the scene first!

's' is the hot key for
activating the scale tool.

To resize an object uniformly,
apply the scale tool holding 
the Shift key down.

If you need to access certain
tool options frequently, you
can create a shortcut to
the tool by selecting the tool,
setting the tool options and
then dragging the tool holding
Ctrl key down into a new position
in the toolbar. This creates
a new tool button which activates
the tool with the specified options.

To rename an object in
the Select Window, click
its name slowly two times.

The right angle bracket key '>'
starts/stops animation playback.
The '<' key rewinds the animation.

You can rearrange the object
hierarchy in the select
window using drag & drop.
If you drop an object over
an icon, it is inserted
inside. 

The zero key '0' ray trace
renders the active view window.

To create a path animation,
select the animated object 
and the path object and
select the Animation Path
tool.

You can select perspective
modeling by deactivating the
'Input Plane/Lock to Camera'
option from a View popup menu.

A new option to display
vector controls using three
separate fields is available.
Use the Option window to 
select the desired field mode.

Scalar and vector fields
support now =+ and =- prefixes.
For example, the user can define
the radius of a sphere by
entering: =+0.5 

You can duplicate points 
of SDS by dragging them 
with the Ctrl key.

You can duplicate faces 
of SDS by dragging them 
with the Ctrl key.

Extrude a face by dragging its face 
normal handle while holding down 
the Ctrl key.

Subdivide a face by dragging the end 
point of its face normal handle while 
holding down the Ctrl key.

To add a new point into a NURBS
curve, drag a knot point to the
desired position holding down
the Ctrl key 

You can adjust the weight of
a NURBS point by selecting
the point in the edit mode and
then dragging it with the Alt key
held down.

You can use Realsoft 3D as a
batch renderer by using -render, 
-play and -file startup parameters.
 
Choreography window allows you to copy
key frames with Ctrl key. Just hold
down the Ctrl key while moving the
selected key frames.
